Much to the dismay of Mike we did not break any records today in Minnesota. It finally broke the freezing mark with the high reaching around 37 degrees. Literally the best day all year. Mike got a call for an emergency in Waseca so we all went for a little drive. On the way back Mike let me photograph these cool windmills. They are across from Doge center Minnesota were Mike has family history. Clair had relatives that were among the first people to live in Dodge Center. The Tallman family. They started one of the first turkey farms and if I remember right eventually sold out to Jenny-O. I must tell you that I have decided this last month that I am not a big fan of Photoshop. I think there is something great about a photograph that has not been doctored. I am going to make it my goal to not photoshop pictures unless it is a must, other than maybe a little color adjustment.

Were the wind turbines loud? I've always wondered. Mark's dad wants to put some on his property. They cost lots of money! :(
ReplyDeleteActually they made the most comforting sound. It was like a very soft white noise...I would be great to take a nap under one in the summer. They are very expensive. Shana's dad does a lot with them. You should put your FIL in touch with him. He loves to talk windmills too.
ReplyDeleteI must say that those wind farms scare me a bit. I don't know why...I agree with what they do though and they are interesting.
ReplyDeleteYou're not going to get into Photoshop? Oh, Monica it's so much fun!! It is pretty confusing when you first get in there and I can see how you appreciate the original image but there are so many things the camera doesn't get right that you can correct in Photoshop not to mention all the awesome effects. In fact, if you shoot your images in RAW (rather than jpg...we only shoot in RAW format) you can actually completely change the exposure in Photoshop in case it was wrong in the camera. We wouldn't have a business without Photoshop. I just had a client tell me that in one of the photos the subject was too blown out but everything else was perfect so he asked if I could do anything. I took the image, copied it, made the copy several exposures darker, then painted the subject into the original image. I do this ALL the time!! I feel this more accurately represents what you'd see in person. If you ever want to learn more just let me know I'd be happy to answer questions :)
hehe! I have messed around a little bit with the RAW files and I love that. It is true that the computer in your camera is too small to do what you can on a regular camera with the RAW files. I think the biggest problem I have right now is that Photoshop always locks up my computer because it is such a big program. I need to upgrade my memory. I can't even crop with it without it taking forever! There are things I love about PS...I just hate seeing photo that is stunning and wondering if it is really the picture they took. However, I think some exceptions apply...like with people. If it were my wedding I would not care what was done to the pictures as long as they were the best pictures ever!! Hmmm...maybe I need some more thought. Did you set up a workshop yet? Hey I am getting a new lens for Valentine's day!
