His grand entrance

Matthew did not glide into the world.  He was shoved, vacuumed and finally dragged by salad tongs into it.  He was bruised, gigantic and unhappy.  He was also exhausted.  The doctor found a cord knot after he was born.  All the nurses turned white.  In a normal baby a cord knot would have been certain death if not early birth for distress.  In the 24 hours of labor and the three hours of pushing Matthew did not once get distressed.  The doctor told us that had Matthew not been "a moose" the cord knot would have been very bad.  He however, was a moose.  As you can see by the scale.  He was not on the lighter side.

His first bath

Matthew ended up having a slight case of jaundice.  This is typical of bigger babies with such dramatic grand entries into the world.
